DeviantArt Rule #249

I don't care since since I don't use the site, but it's good for a laugh. Remember that DevianTart used to delete images that depicted adult characters that were normaly underraged in the original media. That was the reason why Wagner was temp banned not long ago. Apparently some people complained that there was no such rules. So Deviantart just added one more rule to their cryptic regulations.
12. Fictional underage characters taken from popular television series, movies, or other sources will at all times be treated as being underage by staff regardless of attempts to claim the character is 18+ or have otherwise been "aged" past their minor status in order to be shown nude or in an erotic manner.

Seriously, guys, if you wanna draw porn and are too lazy to start your own website, move somewhere else. Like for exemple. When they upgrade, it'll be just like DevianTart, but without incomprehensible censorship.

Edit: Yes, that means DA has killed rule 34.

The problem with leaving DA for more sordid sites like Hartists or Hentai-Foundry is that because of their content, they'll NEVER get the kind of traffic DA does. That'd be like leaving MySpace to join ComicSpace. Sometimes I just don't FEEL like drawing gigantic floor-dragging tits with foot long nipples. Sometimes I just wanna draw kittens. Superhero kittens... that get noticed by one of Image Comics' hottest artists... who sends me a note asking if I'd be interested in doing a pin-up for their latest anthology.

Whereas the only notes I'd get on the more explicit DA clones would be to ask if I could add 2 extra sets of tits on that last Digimon drawing I posted.

I think you're popular enough not to need the social networking of a site like Deviantart.

But any case, I don't care. It's the people's choice. :-)

I'd like to think so too, but I'd be fooling myself.
The Policy Admin responds.
"I've seen porno of Lilu and Stitch- I mean c'mon she's what, eight years old? Pardon me if I apply the "Freak" label to anybody I catch drawing that stuff and I'll be completely honest with you with the fact that I will toss you off the site forever if I catch this stuff in your gallery."
I'm glad he's being sarcastic, otherwise I'd have to sand him some scans from my Chris Sanders sketchbook of ZOMG newd wimmens!!

A quick rant. What is indecent? Rather, what is considered "indecent" by or by standard of say a site like DA? Who Decides? Why them?

Naked women abound in art Gallery's worldwide under the banner of 'Art'. Yet I know puritanical people who'd see exposing the ankles a sin, let alone a little T&A. Why the double standard? How does one draw the line?

What if I liked... say llamas. And I drew them all from the backside as anatomically accurate as I could. But I happen to be the only llama fetishest in the world on this example, and I alone lust after their sleek figure. Is this porn? Or am I an artist expressing myself?

Now replace "Llama" from above with a nice fictional character like, oh I dunno, Zeus. As I draw picture after picture of Zeus's bare ass, is this porn? Or is this art?

Now let us take our fictional character and change it to another character. One with no physical identity, no legal rights, no definition in this world aside of being the Property of an artist. Like say Lilo as @$$ had above. I take this fictional artist's creation that has no emotions, no sentience, and thanks to Parody Laws, no real protection. Now instead of drawing the ingrown rectal hairs of Zeus (or the barnacled testicles of Poesidon), I draw the brown, likely barnacle free ass of Lilo. Is this art? Free expression? Porn?

If this is porn, how is this ass different from a 15th century bare ass of Venus? Cause it's brown? Is youse Racist? Cause it's young? What about cherubs? Little naked boys with wings. If I put wings on Lilo, is it okay?

My only thought is Canvas. If it's on Canvas, it must be art.

So, all you Lilo lovers, go buy your canvas and enjoy your expressing of art.

Sorry for a 4AM ramble.

With Regards,
Herr Schmidt
