Today in conservatard sexual scandals: Vic Toews, Roy Ashburn and the Vatican

Apparently the Canadian media does no want to talk about this, because we had to learn from Dan Savage at the Seattle Stranger that Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews cheated on his wife and got a younger woman pregnant. The media does not want to talk about this because it is a personal matter. But Vic Toews has no qualms about calling gay marriage " a threat to the family and the institution of marriage." Which really isn't any of his fucking business, is it?

Toews has described gay marriage ceremonies as satanic "Black Masses," and insisted that adding gays and lesbians to existing Canadian civil rights statutes would bring the "jackboot of fascism [down] on the necks of our people."

Then there's Roy Ashburn (more like assburn amirite), state Senator in California (R-Bakersfield). Roy is a "family values" conservative.

State senator Roy Ashburn was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday at 2am in Sacramento, after police saw the car he was driving swerving erratically. An unidentified male passenger was in the car with Ashburn.

The sources told CBS13 that Ashburn, a father of four, had that night been at Faces, which touts itself as "Sacramento's premier GLBTI Nightclub since 1985."

While the DUI is a much graver offense than coming out of a gay bar with a man, I'm not sure Jesus approves of the latter.
UPDATE: Turns out that in this case as well the media was sitting on the story.

Busted 6 months for hentai and lolicon

Usually people who get busted for hentai also had real child porn in their collection. This guy got busted for importing a bunch of lolicon manga from Japan.

Christopher Handley, the Iowa man on trial for possessing manga "drawings of children being sexually abused," was sentenced on Thursday to six months in prison. Following this sentence, Handley must serve three years of supervised release and five years of probation. Both of these terms will start upon his release from prison and will run concurrently. Handley also agreed to forfeit all seized materials, including his computer. During Handley's supervised release and probation, Handley must also "participate in a treatment program, to include psychological testing and a polygraph examination, as directed by the U. S. Probation Officer." According to earlier court documents, this last provision is "intended to provide [Handley] with diagnosis and treatment for sexually and/or gender identity or other mental health issues." Handley pleaded guilty to his charges in May 2009.

This guy didn't possess any child porn and did not molest any children or anyone. This is the stupid community standards or Common Law at work. If the jury in your hick town thinks your funny books are an abomination in the eyes of the lord, well you're fucked. Like some supreme court judge I don't remember said, "I can't give you a definition of pornography, but I know it when I see it." I can't give you the exact definition of what makes a stupid fucking moron, but I know one when I hear one.

The prosecution also stated that "The works at issue do not even have arguable scientific, literary, artistic, or political value, such as Vladimir Nabokov's famed novel, Lolita, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

It's no art because I say so.

I'm also bothered by "diagnosis and treatment for sexually and/or gender identity or other mental health issues." Can the judicial system decide if your gender identity is acceptable? Same for sexuality; that's a thought crime.

"although honest with what he reported, was not disclosing enough to gain a complete picture of the nature and extent of [his] sexual deviancy … The main finding from the testing results is that Mr. Handley produced a guarded, defensive, and evasive profile. Christ, who wouldn't evasive in the same situation. He's being judge for his fantasies. Everybody's got some fucked up fantasies and as long as they don't hurt anyone they're really nobody's business. They really skrewed this guy's life.

I wouldn't be making much of a profit, but my main goal was to not lose any money anyway.

noisy LaCie fanless HD is noisy

I bought the black 500gb external hard drive from LaCie to use on my sat TV's PVR. Is it normal that a supposedly FANLESS HD makes as much noise as my entire 5 year old PC? I understand that a hard drive would make some noise when it spins, but I can hear it from outside the room.And it's like a windy sound. Sounds like a fan... I can barely hear my netbook's HD even with my ear on it. With no sleep mode, I can't sleep with that thing running in the room. And I can't switch it off, because then my PVR needs to reboot for 5 minutes. Not very conveniant.

I'm bringing it back to the store tomorrow. Haven't decided if I'm exchanging it for something that would be hopefully silent or if I just get my money back and not use the recorder.

I went in a xmas shopping recon this week to a toy shop and came out with a Mustang 68 model kit. I really hate painting and white looks pretty cool so I left it as it is.

I made a stupid glue stain on the fucking windshield. So I just spread glue everywhere to make it look like frost. That's a bow of Lothlorien btw.

And who's Mustang is that? I edited some of the decals that came with the model. I think it took me at least 20 minutes just for these three letters.

Except for Serpentor and Beach Head (which I don't care about), I got the entire collection.

I have no idea if it's still in use today, but I had to press my translator to give me a Chinese racist slur as she felt it was highly innapropriate. Acer Aspire One Netbook

I finally bought a 10inch netbook. An Acer Aspire One, working on XP. Seems to be working fine so far. The only thing that bugs me is the WiFi only connects if the modem is set to Open WEP. While my Nintendo DS only connects to WiFi on Shared WEP. Not a huge deal to change the setting when needed, but it's annoying. (Nevermind, fixed.)

The next episode of the Miss Dynamite anime will involve Twiggy and I'm not sure how many people know how she was introduced to the series. Those who bought the comic from the shop and those who used to follow me on DeviantArt have probably read it, but that's a small fraction of those who visit this site. So I'm going to post one new colored page from Monday to Friday. This will also give me a good occasion to finish coloring it for the release of the french print version next year.

Varadero report 2009

This was my first trip ever outside Canada or the US and my first flight (except a helicopter ride once).

A photo taken about 1 hour after leaving Montreal. Is this Manhattan? With broadway in diagonal?

This was at the Santa Lucia airport. We were dropped off directly on the airstrip. It looked like the Cuban authorities were afraid of us because they were all wearing masks. We waited there 30 minutes and then got back onboard and flew to the Varadero airport.

I caught the most badass custom agent of the bunch. Every other lines people would show their passport and moved along. My line, the agent compared my face to my passport for several minutes, looking at me very suspiciously.

Arrived at hotel Tuxpan, in the middle of Varadero, around 3am. I've read the onlines reviews of Tuxpan and a lot of people seem to think it sucks.

Personaly, I liked it. I dunno if I was just lucky or if I have different standards. First, 800$ for 6 days/all inclusive is very cheap. Also, Cuba is a poor country. If your idea of a vacation is to travel South and be treated like a white master by the dirt-poor exploited population, maybe you should stay home and hire some Mexicans to mow your lawn.

I think a lot of lower-middle-class Canadians/Europeans go over there to look rich and to flash their money and feel cheated when it doesn't work that way. For exemple of minor discomforts. There were ants in my room. Small ants that don't bite. It's the tropics, can't really complain about bugs. 5 star American hotels are full of bedbugs and I got bigger ants in Montreal. People complained the showers were cold. Not true; they were lukewarm. The only source of electricity in Cuba is oil and most of it is donated by Venezuela, so they're trying to save electricity. It's so hot out there, so who needs a hot shower?

This was the dead season, so there was no more than 50 guests at the hotel and never more than 10 people swimming at the beach.

I was approached by a lifeguard named César who wanted to sell me black market rum. I said 'ok and he was supposed to bring it two days later. I regretted it after, seeing how cheap the rum was anyway, cheaper would be an obvious scam.

But I never saw César again anyway, so who cares... He's probably in a re-education camp now, making his auto-criticism.

I decided to leave for Cuba only two days in advance, so I didn't have any time to learn any spanish and I forgot to get a tourist language book at the airport. Wanting to be polite, I always greeted Cubans with a 'Hola!' and they would start talking to me in spanish thinking I could too... XD Next time I'll learn some basics.

One thing that gets confusing in Cuba is who you're supposed to tip. The reality is, they all want to be tipped, but don't necessarily expect to be. And you can't tip everyone, that's just crazy. So you just have to accept some level of social discomfort and pick who you want to tip. I didn't have any pesos to tip the bellboy when I arrived at the hotel at 3am and the smallest foreign cut I had was 5$US. He looked happy... :-/ I left a peso for the maid each morning.

That WinX Club post-it left by the maid is just too cute, it cracks me up. But even better than money is to bring toys and necessities. A lot of basic things are hard to find in Cuba. It can be stuff from the Dollar Store, which felt so ridiculous to me that I bought some good crayons and a Transformer, but they will be happy with anything you can give them.

Aaaaw! Stop being so cute, Cuban maid... XD A Cuban worker on the beach even asked me if I could give him my hotel free supplies (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc). It was at the end of my trip so I gave him. I also gave him my bottle of Advil. They have free healthcare, but that kind of over-the-counter medicine is expensive.

The next day I took a guided tour of Havana. On the way we passed through Matanza, which looks dirt-poor, although they seem to be fixing habitations. It doesn't help they got hit by 7 hurricanes last year.

There's also stinky oil rigs. I can't never get used to "negro" just meaning "black" in spanish. Everytime I saw their Oro Negro gas stations, I thought of "gold nigger"....

We caught some rain in old Havana, but that meant our museum 10 minutes too short visit was extended to 30 minutes.

For a reason that was explained but which I don't remember (something about the Spanish/American war), the house of the Cuban government is modeled on the US Capitol.

There's a Chinatown in Havana. 1% of the population is chinese, descendants from slave labor, like the Africans on the island.

I haven't seen a Lada since the early 90s.

We then visited the Havana flea market where they sell arts & crafts souvenirs.

The place is fucking nuts. You can't make eye contact with sellers. If you do, you get a sales pitch. And if you enter a booth, forget it, you can't get out of there without buying something. That's how I was stuck buying a carved wooden box because I couldn't say no to the sweet old grandma. That's the awkward thing in Cuba. When Cubans come talking to you, you're never sure if they're just being nice (which they are), or if they're trying to get a peso from you (which they also are). At the museum, one of the employees took my camera from my hands and took pictures of me in front of paintings. You quickly realize she's not just being helpful but expects something in return.

Unlike here where the streets are full of stray cats, Havana seems to be full of stray dogs.

One thing that's very rare in Cuba is anti-authoritarian graffiti. The photo is pretty bad so I'm not sure what this one says.

The closest I saw was this Anarchy tag. But next to it was a Slipknot tag, so I don't think we should see too much into it...

When we came to back to Varadero, I had the best Pina Colada ever, in a snack bar near Matanza.

Made with real pineapple and fresh coconut milk. And they let you pour the rum yourself so it's just to your taste.

The hotel had this ready made artificial mix... :-p bleh!

The following two days I couldn't swim in the sea. Although the weather was hot, the winds were high and the waves too big. Whatever, I've swam in bigger waves on the east coast. And there's a pool.

So I took the opportunity to take a Coco Taxi ride to the village in Varadero. There is a flea market there that sells the same items as in Havana, but the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Sellers don't try to pressure you.

I bought Cuban hentai. That's an original and I couldn't believe it was selling for 8 pesos! Cuba seems to be applying the Marxist model to arts & crafts. The artists each specializes in creating the same work, over and over. While the job of selling the souvenirs is given the someone who will do that and only that at the flea market. There was 5 other paintings similar to this one, all originals. I wouldn't even do a sketch for 8 pesos.... "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", amirite?
By the way, I've heard people advizing you to haggle sellers at the souvenirs shops. Christ, they have trouble buying simple commodities, they're selling stuff at ridiculously low prices (and it's not made in China) and you're trying to rip them off of the few pesos they can get? Why don't you take a trip to Thailand and get AIDS or something instead? Some people... e_e

On my last day the beach was open to swimmers again so I enjoyed the fuck out of it. I spent so much time in the ocean that the day after in Montreal my head was still spinning. The floor felt like waves @_@

A short while ago, I read an article in the Washington Post titled: Opposing Gay Unions With Sanity & a Smile.

With that title, you can kinda guess where this is going. WaPo staff writer Monica Hesse talks about Brian Brown, executive director of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM... ya, rly).

Brian Brown speaks to these people (moderates). He has a master's degree from Oxford, and completed course work for a doctorate in history from UCLA. He shoulders the accusations of bigotry; it's horrible when people say that your life's mission is actually just prejudice. He tries to help people see that opposing gay
marriage does not make them bigots, that the argument should have nothing to do
with hate or fear, and everything to do with history and tradition.
The reason Brian Brown is so effective is that he is pleasantly, ruthlessly sane.

Hesse goes on to write the portrait of a man we should pay attention to. Not because he's right, but because he's so gosh darn nice and polite... Sorry, but there's nothing "sane" about bigotry.

"I have gay people who are friends and family," he says. "We can disagree on all sorts of things and still care about each other." And later, "Of course, I have to take their arguments seriously. This issue is important. Ideas have consequences."

Awww, see? He's got gay friends, so he can't be a bad person. The article goes on like that for 4 pages. It's pukerrific.

Anyway, I wrote to Monica Hesse and asked her: "Are you smoking crack, a lazy journalist or are you a bigot yourself?" I didn't really care about getting an answer, I just wanted to give her my two cents. But lo and behold, I got a reply!

Thanks for writing. I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you. I was out of the office last week and am just checking email for the first time in several days.

I expected that I would return to some angry emails about this article. To be perfectly honest, I thought they would come from anti-gay marriage conservatives. This is what I thought they would say: "How dare you write such a snide article on Brian Brown."

It's possible to read my piece and come away thinking, "Brian Brown is a nice guy whose beliefs are correct." Another interpretation could be that Brown's "niceness" is precisely what makes him so threatening to the pro- same sex marriage movement. "Nice" does not equal "right" after all. And sometimes apparent sanity is more dangerous than ranting and raving.

I could have quoted several pro- same sex marriage supporters saying precisely this. I interviewed several of them -- Joe Solomese at the HRC was, as usual, articulate and helpful. Ultimately, I thought the piece would have more impact if the reader heard Brian's voice. They could then decide for themselves whether they found his arguments persuasive, or whether they found his "rationality" chilling, absurd and irrational. It's impossible to tell, before an article is published, how readers will interpret the tone of an article. A lot of factors can influence reader's interpretations--the headline, for example (I don't write my own headlines, and had I been in the office I probably would have protested this one).

For better or worse, I try to keep my personal views and biases out of any article I write. But since I've gotten several emails from people accusing me of attempting to carry out a homophobic agenda, you may or may not find this useful: My current partner is a man. Before him, my partner of two years was a woman, with whom I discussed health insurance, kids, houses, and marriage. You can bet that I found the fact that our marriage wouldn't have been legal to be wrong as heck. That doesn't mean that what NOM is trying to do and how they are trying to do it are not important to hear about.

What exactly was snide about her article? But it's the last paragraph that fucking kills me. Can we take behind the shed this notion that journalists are supposed to be virgin births of holy objectivity? Did these guys learned nothing from the past 8 years??? If you're on FOX News and wanna bitch about hippies and fags, that's fair and balanced. But if you wanna call a bigot a bigot, oh shit, that's a leftist liberal bias and you're making baby Jesus cry. The Post recently featured a story by reporter Monica Hesse that ran on the front of the Style section while she was on vacation. The day before returning, she logged on to check e-mails -- and wept.

OMGs, she cried??? Maybe you need to write for People or the National Enquirer. The ombudsman goes on the explain that the article was probably poorly written, but Monica is such a good writer and we're being mean to her. Something's not right here...

Anyway, one thing seems clear from reading Hesse's reply and the ombudsman's explanation. They were sure the criticism would come from the right. They made the portrait of a bigot, but they were so afraid of pissing off said bigots that they went soft on him. As I said above, this is sadly classic mainstream journalism. The hippies are right, but they smell; at least the Nazis are clean.

Which makes me think of a character in Inglorious Basterds: private Fredrick Zoller, a German sniper who becomes famous for killing 300 allied soldiers. In the film, Zoller falls in love with a French girl who's secretly a Jew. So of course the girl wants nothing to do with that Nazi creep, but Zoller doesn't get it. Sure, they might have different views, him being the occupier and her the occupied, but he's such a Nice Guy®.

This fascinates me because it's something you often see with these people. You can't eat your cake and eat too. You can't hate your neighbor and then expect them to invite your at their BBQ. You can't sign a public petition against gay marriage and then ask for the list to be private. "yeah but I have gay and black friends!" Well I suspect your concept of friendship is probably a lot different than mine.

Also, the Washington Post sucks balls.

When I start working again on my Miss Dynamite webcomic I'm pretty sure I'll use that style. I'm pretty good at inking on the Wacom, even though you can't rotate the canvas in Flash, which forces you draw always in the same position. It's so much easier on paper. Perhaps if I had one of those screen tablets, but they're still fucking expensive. I nearly bought some Sakura Micron pens at the art shop yesterday but then I thought, fuck it, Sharpies are good enough.

Since I don't have access to my graphic tablet since I left my appartment last Spring, I had to work on Sister Wulfia Focka the old school way. With some experimentation, I arrived to this technique of pencils with inks and pencil tones. Very little CG. I had moved from brushes to nibs a long time ago. Then the quality of Strathmore's bristol became so shitty I moved to Flash. Then recently at a convention I inked a sketch with my Pentel pen-brush and it was like riding a bicycle again.

I'm thinking that when I start working on my Miss Dynamite webcomic again, that's the style I would use. It's a lot less clean than in Flash, but I think it's got more life. So here's what I want to know. Which of those 3 versions is better? 1 and 2 and the same contrast but version 2 had a 'sharp' filter applied. Version 3's contrast was boosted.

I'm asking because I noticed a difference on how the pictures looking between an old tube monitor and an LCD screen (which I imagine most people have now).

GiJoe: Rise of Cobra or where I go bitchy fanboy mode

Sorry for the lack of activity. I'm busy with the SWF update.

First, some background info. For those who might not know, GiJoe was a huge influence on Miss Dynamite. Eva basicaly started out as a Scarlet rip-off (Original character; do not steal!). I was always more of a GiJoe fan than Transformers as you could have a more complete Joe collection with a tight budget. I think you could get figurines around 3 or 4$ in the early days. Even middle sized vehicules weren't too expensive, being 100% plastic. While the Transformers cartoons had a better continuity, the GiJoe comics had some anthology moments, like the Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow origin. And #21 Silent Interlude should be read by anyone studying sequential art. But except for the first 3 episodes of each series, I can't watch either cartoons anymore; they're just horrible. I sold all my figurines and vehicules to my cousins in the early 90s, but I kept my original Night Raven. Might be one of the best looking 30$ plastic toy ever made.

I saw the movie last Saturday and as some people said, it's better than Transformers. But that's setting the bar pretty low. At least, this is a movie about GiJoe. It's not a movie about some teenager who must protect a pair of sunglasses and oh btw GiJoe. When you see the huge Hasbro logo at the beginning, you know the purpose of this movie is to sell merchandise and that's ok. The story is convoluted, but I don't think it matters. It's not a case of "check your brain at the door", which annoys me to no ends. There's nothing stupid about entertainment for the sake of it. You need to be pretty bright to make good pop. I think what made GiJoe great was great characters. Especialy on the side of Cobra. The only good part of the cartoon is usualy the first act where we see Cobra's new plan enacted. The Cobra elites is a dysfunctional passive-agressive family. That's a sitcom. So instead of reviewing the story, I'll review the characters.

Destro: Exagerated Scottish accent is exagerated, but I wasn't expecting subtlety. I've seen people complain about Destro, but I think he does the job.

Zartan: I think it's useless to complain he doesn't look like the comic/cartoon version. He's the master of disguise. But for people not familiar with the character, he comes out of nowhere. He's Zartan, master of disguise, k thx bye! Uh, who? It's like they introduced some charcters for the fans without bothering to explain who they are, but then don't introduce others that could've helped the plot, because...? They didn't know their source material?

The Baroness: When Sienna Miller was casted, I was afraid she looked too young. My ideal Baroness was a MILF. But I think she looks a bit older in the movie. Maybe it's the hair and the glasses. I think the biggest problem is the origins. In this movie she's under Destro and Cobra's hypnotic control. I always thought of the Baroness as this Euro-trash rich spoiled pseudo-'revolutionnaire', sort of like Patty Hearts. Also, she used to be Duke's fiancée....... LAME! At least they imply that she's probably uncurable and will revert to evil again.

Storm Shadow: Nothing to complain here. He's a white ninja. He has a family feud with Snake-Eyes. Close enough. We're told apparently Storm-Shadow doesn't kill women. Why? Who knows. This useless bit of info is never expended upon.

Duke: No charisma. Ok, but kinda boring.

Rip-Cord: Who the fuck is Rip-Cord??? I barely remember him from the comics. At least Wyant (sp?) wasn't in Jar-Jar-neoministrel mode.

Heavy Duty: That guy I never heard of! He's from Sigma Six apparently? Why not Road Block?

Scarlett: Not bad, but unfortunatly for the actress she's given one of the worst line in the movie. Also, they hint at her relation with Snake-Eyes, like in the comics. But then it's completly ignored after.

Breaker: He likes bubble gum, like in the comics. Thanks for the bone Hollywood, that made this movie fucking special. e_e

General Hawk: Quaid was acting like he was in Spy Kids, but that's not his fault since the movie's tone was very unequal.

Snake Eyes: That mouth on the mask is creepy. I know the figurine was like that, but I never liked that version. I never understood what that medieval armor-like visor was supposed to be. I always like the original Snake Eyes better. The whole Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow story was thrown in just for the fans. Jee, thanks, but it serves no purpose to the story. There was material there for an entire movie. Instead it's delivered with two quick flashbacks and no emotion.

The origin story of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow is tragic. The Cobra crazy plans is comedic. And you've got stuff in the middle. This movie doesn't know what kind of movie it is. Is it dark? Serious? Funny? While I'm sure most people would've wanted more grimdark ninja badasserie, I think they should have gone the America Fuck Yeah satire way.

Speaking of which, I forgot the most important. Cobra Commander! Much like General Hawk, the actor isn't bad, but the movie is so uneven his acting looked awkwardly comical. He's Snidely Whiplash evil. He's the brother of the Baroness and former friend of Duke... That's not necessary, I'm not sure why Cobra should have an origin. He's evil, let's leave it at that. If you give him an origin, you make him more human. But that would only work with a realistic tone and that's not gonna work with Cobra. And the fucking costume.... christ! I would have been ok with Cobra only becoming 'the Commander' at the end, but why didn't he get the original costume??? And don't tell me it would have looked too cheezy. The helmet maybe, but not the hood. I heard (might not be true) they were afraid it would look too much like the KKK. Wha? Who cares, he's the bad guy, he's allowed to look like a bastard.

Crank 2 made more sense, I didn't even saw the first one and it cost dozens of millions of dollars less. If they don't bother improving, I'll do as I did with Transformers 2 and won't bother watching the sequel.

about Starship Titus

I should have written an informative post about this a long time ago, but I kept forgetting. And things develloped so slowly over a year that there never was an appropriate time to talk about it.

First, Starship Titus is over. The last update was on 8th April 2007.
I am not the admin of Starshiptitus.com, so I have no idea if they still take subscriptions. But if they do, the last update is indicated on the site so there's no false advertizing.
The reasons why Starship Titus ended are unknown to me. These reasons are personnal to Jason and we are still in good terms.
I do not own the rights to the Starship Titus characters. So the chances of me continuing the series are slim to nil. I've read criticism of me for not finishing the last episode. Not my fault, nor my problem.

That's all I can think of for now.

I'm not paying too much attention to the confirmation hearings of Sotomayor for the Supreme Court, because this should be a non-story but for Republicans hyperventilating about Mexicans Atheist Muslim Libruls invadin' 'Murica. So Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is twisting his panties in a knot like a Catholic school girl over comments Sotomayor made about her latina heritage. Sessions, someone who once made the apology of the KKK, thinks that's racist. That's rich... So Sessions quoted Judge Miriam Cedarbaum, who “believes that judges must transcend their personal sympathies and prejudices.” And Sessions continued:

“So I would just say to you, I believe in Judge Cedarbaum’s formulation,”

That's when Sotomayor pulled a move worthy of Woody Allen's Annie Hall and said:

“My friend Judge Cedarbaum is here. We are good friends, and I believe that we both approach judging in the same way, which is looking at the facts of each individual case and applying the law to those facts.”

For those who've never seen Annie Hall, this is the scene I'm talking about.

So I guess when I'm going to hell, I'll be joined by conservative Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

At the funeral of former governor-general Roméo Leblanc, Stephen Harper (a protestant) was given a communion wafer. But instead of eating it, as the Catholic church requires, he put it in his pocket. Harper denies the accusations, but the video tells another story.

This remind me of the story of the student who received death threats for kidnapping a communion wafer in the States.

We can only assume Stephen Harper kept what he perceives as a "Death Cookie", so he and his family can torture the body of Christ in the comfort of his home. Hey, Harper once said climate change was a socialist conspiracy, so who knows...

The Forum is Dead

I think probably one person noticed (even I forgot about it), but the Miss Dynamite forum has been closed and is dead for good. There was already very little activity when I transfered it to Slipshine, now the only new members were spambots. I think the blog killed the forum, so I don't think it's a loss, just a change. Who still goes to forums these days anyway?

Anyone uses a netbook?

They seem like a good and cheap alternative to a laptop if you only need to go online.

Are they good to watch movies online? (pr0n!)
Are they exclusively WiFi or do they have an ethernet socket?
If your OS fucks up, how do you reinstall XP? USB key?

So I'm hearing it's even more boring and racist than the first one? Seriously, I don't understand people who say, "Micheal Bay makes action movies, don't expect Shakespeare". That's the problem. Micheal Bay is a BAAAD action director. Fucking shaky cam, robots who all look the same and absolutly no sense of continuity. Bad Boys was awful. Bad Boys 2 made me feel bad. And I couldn't watch Pearl Harbor till the end. I never saw The Rock and Armageddon and probably never will. I'm not even going to bother downloading a copy of Transformers 2; not worth the time.

This bridge doesn't seem too safe.

It was as shaky as it looks.

Bees are awesome! There was hundreds of them.

This snail looks like it got cracked but healed.

I don't normaly give trolls that kind of exposure, but with what's going on in the US right now, it's a good oppotunity to talk about SOCIALIZED (eeeeevil!) medicine. The commenter's named linked to Jeff Goldstein, a wingnut blogger with an inferiority complex, but I doubt it's him. He would use a sock-puppet to troll, as he got caught doing in the past.

But ANYWAY, I am feeling better. I have been followed by a social worker from almost the very start, which helped a lot and is free. I've had trouble finding a doctor, but this is partly my fault because I never got a family doctor, and because the first doctor I saw was an ass. Which cannot be blammed on SOCIALIZED (communiiiiist!) healthcare. I would have tried to find another doctor sooner, but TL;DR story, I was messed up. But for the past two months, I'm being followed by a doctor (free) and I am on an anti-depressant treatment (only 15$ a month for the pills, thanks to a state medicine collective insurrance). So yeah, SOCIALIZED (faaaaaaag!) medicine sucks a lot, NOT! As the Republicans always say: "Do you want bureaucrats taking care of your health?" If it's a choice between bureaucrats and an insurrance company looking to make a profit on my ass, fuck yeah I'll take the bureaucrat!

Anyway, I'm doing better. Not perfect, but a lot better. It'll take time. I'm taking things slowly, a long vacation. And for those who told me not to take pills, well sorry, you didn't know what you were talking about. :p But not as wrong as that troll was, lol!

It's incredible how little info there is about Iran on the cable news networks. I understand the Iranian government has kicked out all foreign media, but they should be able to use inside contacts. That's what the blogs are doing. Andrew Sullivan's blog is a good place to find information about current Iranian events.

I wasn't very optimistic about the protesters' chances against the government. Especially after yesterday's massive support rally for Adhmedinejadingdong. And if it wasn't enough that the riot police is blindly following orders, you've got militant thugs beating up women in the streets. But today's demonstration in support of Mousavi was even bigger it seems, with crowds that reached till the horizon.
