Afuganisu-tan

For this day, Afuganisu-tan, the history of Aghanistan, in translated manga strips. It's very cute, clever and a bit sad.

Edit: I forgot I had these photos (probably from around 1996).

While the sense of loss is still profound, I think that some of the edge has been taken off of its bite. Having constant reminder of it has certainly not helped to instill the sense that a people, an ideal, were grievously wronged and savaged, and though the damage could have been far greater I wonder if their purpose wasn't to goad us into a war we couldn't possibly win through force of arms or imparting of ideals.

Lately when I hear of how Bush has talked about staying the course, I find myself wondering if that course leads us straight into a brick wall.

It still makes me sick to see those towers fall. I hate how the media keeps shoving that image into my face. Living there, seeing them all the time... It's one of those things in life that you say can't happen, it happens to other people and places. And what has this country accomplished? I'm so glad Bush's time is almost up at this point because the only bush I trust at this point is my own. At least his damn brother isn't the governor in FL anymore.
