New York Times Mag has a very good article on troll culture. It seems to confirms what a lot of us already suspected. Trolls troll cuz they got butt hurt.

If every douchebag on the internet was a victim of sodomy that would mean an epidemic. I think most trolls just act that way on the internet because they can. If they tried the same shit in real life they'd get their faces punched in.
Not the occasional douche, but real trolls. And one person can troll a lot of different places using different names. It's funny to see these trolls try to rationalize their behavior, calling it a "social experiment", but they obviously don't realize what pathetic sad sacks of misery they really are. Anyway, I actually know a guy who trolled irl. Which, while ballsier than trolling online, I'm sure was still frustrating for the group he trolled. He's a great guy, but I wouldn't have any sympathy if someone had actually hit him.
I have to wonder if this Times article is actually generating sympathy for trolls, ha.
I have seen trolling comments made by sirk on Daily KOS. And sirk has trolled conservative forums before. I know you all worship him, for some strange reason. I've read your comments. But he cannot claim the higher ground. He trolls, and has been trolled. He has called the religious right evil, then rejoiced over a mans death, even drawn a rather crude and childish cartoon about it. Our actions define who we are.

TL;DR story, there's a guy called John on a blog called Republicus. He once got banned from LiberalAvenger, I don't even remember who banned him, must've been like 2 years ago? I dunno. Anyway, now there's people (probably channers, I talked to one of them who became a Miss Dynamite fan because of John) who troll John's blog. And John is persuaded that I'm trolling his blog using sock-puppets.
I thought of trying to talk to him, but what good would that do? The guy is completly delusional, I would suspect somekind of obscessive paranoïa. Next he's gonna think I'm watching over his house in a black helicopter. John is still pissed off about getting banned and still writes drama post about the serious business of getting banned. He would never believe me if I told him the truth.
Sure, I've made fun of some conservatives in their comments sometimes, but that's extremly rare, because I don't read those unless a liberal blog links to them. That's just not what trolling is.
