It was always pretty obvious it would end with Zuko/Mei and Aang/Katara. Still funny how the idea was played around with, though. Especially in the Ember Island Players episode where they actually lampooned everything ("I will always love you... like a brother"). On an even funnier note, a recent scan of the IMDB forums has produced such lulzworthy questions as "Is this really the last episode?" and "Did anyone else feel like crying during the Ember Island Players episode?" I'm sorry, I really love the show, but that's taking it a little far.
Anyway, is it just me or did Mark Hamill do the best villain voice since "The Joker"?
P.S. Love the space sword reference, I was actually going to use it myself.
I never watched this show . I caught an episode here and there. I caught up by watching the marathon and thought to my self. This is actually a good show! I couldnt wait for the movie. and over all I think it was a good run. (i think there are movies coming after though as spin offs.) Spin offs would be nice though Cause I dont think they gave me enough closure with zuko and his family. I wish they would have shown more of azula and how she turned out in the end. Id love to hear her defeat speech.
So overall I may actually buy dvds I was that impressed. I felt bad for coming in late,
2 complaints though,
1 im aware it's a kids show but it doesnt changed the fact the childish aspect got anoying. for example. ohhh i wont kill the main bad guy so ill pull the power of taking away his bending out of my ass =/ they could have atleast broken his bending apendages or have an acidental death!.but meh. I didnt want avatar to Be BRUTALLY adult. I rather like some of the childish aspects of it. But I would have like to have seen a little bit more leniancy that i KNOW the writters wanted.
2. I didnt like how the romance was written. the only one i did like was suki and sokka. but that was minimal as well. something about it just turned me off. Maybe it was the fact of seeing such passionate kisses in a nick toon. or maybe it was the the MASSIVE amount of shipping. I rather just leave it up to the writers. but what ever it was I didnt like the romance =/
p.s. I dunno if anyone felt this but Katara didnt seem to into aang romantically until AFTER he beat the fire lord and became this big hero =P ( can you say pole riding?)
Well, while I felt the ending was a tad idealistic, I think that the very idea that the Avatar might have to kill somebody was handled very well. It's definitely a far cry from the 90s when death was another four-letter word as far as the S&P was concerned. Still today, it's rare for a show marketed to kids to actually handle the subject of death so maturely. As far as closure goes, I find it unsettling when a show tries to resolve every conflict, and usually it's very unsatisfying as well. It'd be best if Nick left this be instead of going back to the well far too many times like they tend to do with their other successful franchises.
Of course, Avatar will be getting a big screen adaptation at the hands of M. Night "What a Twist!" Shyamalan (am I the only one who has trouble spelling his name?). So let's hope the last of this expected trilogy doesn't end with Aang being swallowed by the Lion Turtle.
I also didn't really get into this show until the marathon...and I was amazed! This show was truly incredible. I expected it to be another stupid anime, but it was really clever, and I found myself busting out laughing on more than one occasion in each episode! I do believe that there will be more movies, because at the end, Zuko says "Where is my mother?"...
There will indeed probably be spin-offs. But anything is gonna look kinda lame after this epic. Kinda like those Star Wars sequel novels. The main bad guy got defeated, anything else is gonna be mop-up. Or else a bigger evil comes, and then you feel cheated, like in DragonBall.
And kids show or not, I don't really see how Aang could kill the Fire Lord. He got turned into a huge drooling bitch.
I don't care what anyone says, I would NOT feel cheated if a new season featuring a European-ese naval fleet from "The New World" starts wrecking shit with gunpowder and cannons and smallpox!
Eh, there were small things I wanted to see. It took Aang the first 2 seasons to master water bending, Maybe, a half of the second season to do earthbending. THREE DAYS TO MASTER FIRE. And I wanted to see Iroh kick arse breaking out of jail and all that. Just minor things. Probably would have stretched it out by 3-4 episodes. But they wrote themselves into hole with the whole "The comet is so god damn close! HURRY HURRY!" thing. Also, Sirk should totally do grown up Avatar porn. Because we're all sick bastards.

Yoda failed and Luke became the Emperor.

end pointless rant here....
p.s.s.
I gotta give props. They are (to my knowledge at least) the first western mainstream cartoon to start a story and end it!
as an aspiring animator they have opend a door that I one day hope to use.

Agreed.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Slobberyasha's half-assed ending.
Ended way too soon.
Dunno what more they could have done before it got repetitive.

I have no idea how to describe to you how pointless bumping the comments is.
Yeah, topics are fixed, there's no bumping. wtf e_e

I second the eurofleet of doom.
Also Zuko should've ended up with IronLoli. That'd have been awesome. But being a loli in a US show it was doomed from the start.

I'm SO glad they didn't end with a lame-o platonic shrug and went instead for that balls out kiss
yeah i was kinda taken aback at seeing that moderately intense scene on nick
Did they use tongue? X-D
If the camera had been on them for about 3 more seconds, you might have seen that yeh.
I'm surprised Ty Lee's line didn't get mentioned here.
"We bonded in prison!"
