RIP Blackie

Today I went to the vet to have Blackie euthanized. Her tumor was getting too big and it was getting in her way. She had trouble cleaning herself properly. She was prone to tumors, so another surgery for her was out of the question. Even removing it now would have been risquy considering Blackie was quite old for a female rat now (nearly 2 years old).

Here are the pictures from our last playtime yesterday.

It seems like you were very much prepared for it. Blackie looked as if she lead a very fulfilling life for a pet rat. But I'll say it anyway: sorry for your loss. I'm trying to keep this as short as possible; I have a very soft spot for such cute creatures. =(

Here's to hoping there's a rat heaven where she's residing, happy that the pain her tumor put her in is over.

Oh...

Hey man, I'm real sorry to her gone...

I know you really cared for both Eva & Blackie.

Well, now we'll be that much more appreciative of their comic namesakes.

Best,

actually Rats are VERY prone to tumors. All 3 of mine died by them (and 2 of the 3 i swear to god look exactly like your two) and yea One of mine had 3 tumors only to get them removed, and then come back. then the other one got 2 and we knew it was time to put them down. We kept the 3rd one for another 6 months or so until it grew a giant one as well.

Its strange that you buy these little things for like 5-10 bucks each and you end up loving them enough to spend 100s, if not 1000s of dollars of surgery on them. They made great pets and I hope Eva does well, because Rats are very social animals and she may not know what to do when her play mate is no longer there
