Kung Fu Panda

Saw it Tuesday. Awesome, kick-ass, hardcore. Ok, maybe not hardcore, but finally, a Dreamworks 3D movie on par with Pixar.

(This already been said, but I'll repeat it.) Dreamworks is in the habit of making parodies and reference humor. A little of it can be fun. But too much feels like watching a five minutes Saturday Night Live sketch stretched to two hours. And these movies age very badly. Kung Fu Panda isn't a martial arts movie parody, it's a genuine kung fu movie. Sure there are some references to classic kung fu movies, but they are hommages, not parodies. The fight scenes aren't there just to be funny (even though they are funny), they provide pure and entertaining awesomeness. The story itself has been done, 'an inept oaf discovers his hidden talent'. But it's done so well you barely notice.

There are a few little bad points. With the exception of the Panda, the character devellopement is perhaps a bit weak. But I imagine they didn't want to make a 3 hours movie for kids. I'm gonna sound like a fangirl 'shipper', but I swear the Snake had a crush on the Panda. Also, without revealing any spoilers, you can see the writers were stucked in a corner when came time to dispatch the bad guy.

Speaking of the villain, GODS I LOVE IAN MCSHANE!

This was the third time nobody talked in the theater during the movie in less than a month. Which was pleasantly weird. People talking during movies is the reason I've almost stopped going to representation. The last time I told a 'talker' to shut the fuck up, a husher told me I wasn't allowed to do that. Well, what about you do your job, Mr. HUSHER? Anyway, let's hope it's a trend and not an anomaly.
