Help with contrast
Since I don't have access to my graphic tablet since I left my appartment last Spring, I had to work on Sister Wulfia Focka the old school way. With some experimentation, I arrived to this technique of pencils with inks and pencil tones. Very little CG. I had moved from brushes to nibs a long time ago. Then the quality of Strathmore's bristol became so shitty I moved to Flash. Then recently at a convention I inked a sketch with my Pentel pen-brush and it was like riding a bicycle again.
I'm thinking that when I start working on my Miss Dynamite webcomic again, that's the style I would use. It's a lot less clean than in Flash, but I think it's got more life. So here's what I want to know. Which of those 3 versions is better? 1 and 2 and the same contrast but version 2 had a 'sharp' filter applied. Version 3's contrast was boosted.
I'm asking because I noticed a difference on how the pictures looking between an old tube monitor and an LCD screen (which I imagine most people have now).

While I personally prefer the second's contrast, I think the third's boost will really work well with appropriate light/dark settings.
Wow, Kaesrer either read my mind or two is just that good. The only problem with 3 is that it seems just a little too dark. As it stands though, two is still the best. Yes, I'm using an LCD monitor (wasn't but a month ago I was using a tube monitor).
I think... somewhere between 1 and 2 should be fine.
three is a little too 'sharp' in the digital sense, and feels like it was a reproduction rather than the actual piece.
the first and second are both nice, although the second has a feeling of immediacy where the first has a kind of lazy dreamy quality.
oh wait, i'm not making any sense! mostly two with some one thrown on for the sweet moments.
I like them all, but the second one is my favorite.
Middle it is.
The second one looks best. I can see the pencil marks clearest.
I use a Japanese fude-pen. It's a brush with self-contained ink. You can do all sizes of lines with a single pen. I love it. Is that the same as a Pentel?
I had a hard time with nibs and a bottle of ink. Too messy. For fine lines I just use Micron pens.
Standard LCD. First looks best to me. May just be the style.
It looks very similar to the Pentel brush from what I can see. It's probably the same brush with a different case.
Funny thing, in a Google image search for "pentel pen-brush", Miss Dynamite comes up first.
You're right the Pentel looks exactly the same as the Japanese fude pen. Must be the western version of the same thing.
I prefer the old ink and pen to the CG stuff it feels more like a comic that way and reminds me of the old Miss Dynamite comics I loved.
Sirkowski you can not tell me you never looked at the Baroness and though "yeah she'll probably stab me but fucking her would be worth it."
I can not be the only man alive who thought she was hot. I wonder if you could do a SWF with her or would you have to get Hasbro's permission?
I could do a character called The Countessa with a slightly different costume with no legal problems.
I like the second image too, the first seems a little out-of-focus to me, and the third has too much ink. (i like an artist who doesn't waste ink.)
And, Jonas, you are not alone. The Baroness is HOTT. (you should look at some of Zimmermans work http://thezportal.com/ Hes done lots of Baroness pics.)
I say first image looks best.
I wonder what other Copyrighted Fem Fatals you could spoof?
Did not like the third version. #1 and #2 are pretty much equal, if anything #1 looked better to me.
Irregardless of that, however, it occurs to me that what's really needed is a view of Blackie with her shirt off....
