Hate has consequences

An abortion doctor was killed today, at his church, in what could be the first terrorist attack under the Obama administration. I'm pretty sure the shooter was no Muslim.

Conservatives have painted Obama as an abortionist, an atheist, a communist, a fascist, an islamic terrorist born on foreign soil. They created fantasies where gays conspire to destroy families, jewish lawyers wage war against x-mas and they were comforted in their views by 8 years of Bush. Now that they lost, do the conservatives elites who used this kind of cynical pandering think their psychofans (mispelled on purpose) are just going to store their guns away now that they believe their country is in peril?

Not long ago a report by the dept. of Homeland Security found that the most urgent terrorist threat against America was from Christian right-wing extremists. The report didn't please Republicans who saw it as an attack against freedom of religion, so the report was swept under the rug. When you spend your time convincing people that homos, jews and doctors are evil, you can't claim you've got no responsability when someone acts on this hatred.

More on this and the blood Bill O'Reilly has on his hands.

Commenters at Free Republic and other consevative blogs are cheering. Quoted:
[the doctor] had the goods on Kathleen Sebelius, and that means she was blackmailable. I wonder if they will catch the killer on this one?!They're already making conspiracy theories where the Democrats are the real killers. Crazy... it's gonna be the 90s all over again.

First damn thing I thought. "Not this 90s shit again."

It's a shame the pendulum won't swing to persecuting the crazies within our own borders, and instead on all of the other minorities people just don't like and, of course, foreigners. Can't wait for the wave of hatred towards Europe again, oh boy!

"Getting someone back" won't help a damn. I think the shooter clearly has some sort of psychosis. I'm not sure what to do in this situation, but I don't think a tit-for-tat is gonna help any.

Of course the shooter "has some sort of psychosis": it's called fanaticism, and it's the most dangerous mental illness because societies like the U.S. that are obsessed with black-and-white divisions in religion and politics promote it.

CNN keeps repeating that the anti-choice side is just as horrified by the murder as the pro-choice side. Sorry, but no. Tucker Carlson is pretty mainstream and look what he said:

"Anonymous: Over the past few years, Bill O’Reilly has made the following comments about Dr. Tiller:

– He “destroys fetuses for just about any reason right up until the birth date for $5,000.” – He’s guilty of “Nazi stuff,” – a moral equivalent to NAMBLA and al-Qaida – “This is the kind of stuff that happened in Mao’s China, Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Soviet Union” – “operating a death mill” – “has blood on his hands” – “executing babies about to be born
Tucker, I’m not saying Billo wanted some kook to kill him, but isn’t this playing with fire? Is there some quote by Olberman or any other liberal commentator that even comes close? Who has the craziest of the liberal left murdered lately?

Tucker Carlson: Every one of those descriptions of Tiller is objectively true. I sincerely think it’s appalling that he was murdered. But Tiller was a monster, no doubt.
"

How is it wrong to kill monsters?

Totally agree with this post. Whatever happened to peaceful protest?

Well, conservatives in this country have been "peacefully" protesting all forms of abortion for years. The problem is that the idea motivating these protests is that "abortion = murder", so it's kind of foolish not to expect some impressionable and/or deluded person to take things to the next step and carry out an act of "vigilantism" (read: terrorism). As Sirk pointed out, political pundits (namely Billo) have been making matters worse by "reporting" exaggerations and total bullshit about Tiller. Any "moral" arguments aside, the late-term abortions Tiller performed were legal (i.e., exceptional cases involving risk to mother or fetal abnormalities) and have been ruled so in two separate trials.

I think any reasonable person will find that the real monster is Bill O'Reilly (and those of his kind). If he was any kind of man, he would apologize for attempting to tarnish Tiller's reputation, and if it is found his "reporting" played any role in the killer's motivation, apologize for motivating Tiller's murder. Lastly, he should apologize for ever calling himself a journalist to begin with (how the hell does he get away with that anyway?).

BTW. Glad to see you posting on political matters again, Sirk. I've been missing these.

Peacefull protesting has the down side that it either A: Doesn't work. Or B: Works way too slow for most people.

Aside from that, yeah, Bill Reilly is a bit of a turd. Is it messed up that I don't really care? Enough people get killed all over, for less reason, or more, all the time, that this guy? Sorry. He's just one more drop in the bucket. Granted. The perpetrator may need to be added to that bucket...
Meh, maybe I just watch too MUCH news.

In response to
"Conservatives...will they ever learn?"

I say, as a Christian and former conservative republican, an emphatic NO! Because the moment they did they would all get sucked into a black hole like they were in a Terry Gilliam cartoon (Monty Python). The two terms Conservative and openminded are completely opposed to each other.

One final thought: I do believe the earth revolves around the sun and that evolution might be right (shit, if most Christians would just realize that the Bible's comments on science are too vague to really fit any of the modern learning on science and just admit they don't know everything all would be good)
Aristotle said it best and I live by this:
The first step to wisdom is to admit you don't know a damn thing anyway (DJ Kitsune translation).
